GRADIENT
Nearly twice the gradient.
The Kelpie works a 20 degree slope, a 36% grade. A high end commercial robot mower sold here is rated to a 20% grade, which is 11.3 degrees. Nearly twice the gradient on the same piece of hill, and more than twice what that machine is rated to at a boundary.

The comparison figure is the published Australian specification for a high end commercial robot mower, accessed 3 September 2026, and is available on request. That machine is rated to a 20% grade inside the working area and 15%, which is 8.5 degrees, at a boundary. Its manufacturer publishes slope as a percentage grade and we publish degrees, so both units are shown.
The ground that suits it
SLOPES
Levee banks, dam walls, hill blocks and sloping parks, where a wheeled mower has to be walked or not mowed at all.

Orchard floors and vineyard mid-rows, working between trunks and posts without a driver turning at every headland.

CUTTING SYSTEM
From a trim to a paddock
A turf robot shaves a small amount off a maintained lawn, very often. The Kelpie is built to take grass down. That difference is in the cutting height, the blade power and the number of parts you have to look after.
Thirty millimetres does not sound like much until you are cutting pasture, an orchard floor or a paddock margin. A higher top cut means the machine can be set to take grass down and leave cover on, rather than being limited to topping a lawn that is already short.
The blades
Two large blades, each on its own head with its own motor, against fifteen small ones on three discs. The Kelpie also cuts a wider swathe, 79 cm against 68. More ruggedised. Fewer parts to carry, fewer to fit, and a shorter job if a change is needed in the future.

Different size, different ground.
The Kelpie has a 79 cm cut, four wheel drive and a cutting height up to 100 mm, which is what lets it work orchard rows, paddocks and grass that is already long. The Mini Kelpie has a 24 cm cut and two wheel drive, and is built for lawns that are already maintained. Both drive themselves, set their boundaries in an app and return to a dock to charge.
Both machines
No. Boundaries and no-go zones are set in the app.
There is no wire to bury and none to repair after aerating, ripping or trenching. Both machines use satellite RTK positioning, with boundaries, exclusion zones and mowing patterns set and changed from the app, so ground that changes through the season does not mean digging anything up.
The Kelpie
Up to 20 degrees, which is a 36% grade.
Slope gets quoted two ways and they look alike on paper, so both are worth having: 20 degrees is a 36% grade. For comparison, a high end commercial robot mower sold here is rated to a 20% grade, which is 11.3 degrees, inside the working area, and 15%, which is 8.5 degrees, at a boundary. In practice that means levee banks, dam walls, hill blocks and sloping parks, ground where a ride-on has to be walked or the slope simply does not get mowed.
The Mini Kelpie
Lawns that are already maintained, including large ones.
Large residential lawns, lifestyle properties, parks and sporting lawns, accommodation and estates, schools and community grounds. It has a 24 cm cut with a single disc and five blades, and an adjustable cutting height from 3 to 7 cm. It is not built for paddocks, orchard floors or grass that has got away.
